20:20 Vision

What’s it all about?
The purpose of Ilmington 20:20 Vision is to think collectively and creatively about
ways in which we can build a resilient community in our village and also sustain it
through the next decade of diminishing resources.
It aims to inspire a range of projects which tackle the challenge of  climate change
and investigation of the environment, heritage and history of our parish.
20:20 hopes to promote social interaction between all age groups living in our
community, including children and vulnerable adults.

The Fifties Project
Ilmington has been awarded a grant from the National Heritage Lottery Fund for a major oral history and drama project .
This exciting venture is being run under the auspices of 20:20 Vision and is a chance for the whole village to participate in the celebrations of HM the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The aim is to discover what life was like in the 1950’s for those living in the village, to record their stories and build on them to create a play which will be performed as part of the nationwide celebrations of Her Majesty’s succession to the throne in June next year.
Research for the oral histories begins this month, with filming scheduled throughout the summer. In addition to providing
material for the play, memories of the 1950’s will be compiled into a film/DVD, form part of a special website and be archived by the county library.
Project Director Colin Edwards said that amongst other things the grant would enable the Village Hall to benefit from new staging and extra lighting ‘I hope the celebrations in June will incorporate a vintage ‘hop’, an exhibition of memorabilia of the decade and lots of fun for everyone,’ he said.

Whether you lived in Ilmington or elsewhere during that time and have memories, pictures or items of interest from the 1950’s then please contact Colin Edwards or Wendy Nelson on 01608 682049  colinlewisedwards@hotmail.co.uk
