Feeding Garden Birds in Winter
Have some birds disappeared from your garden? By following a few simple guidelines we
can play a valuable role in helping our birds survive winter.
Different birds like different food.
For example
Sparrows, finches and collared doves like small seed like millet
Blackbirds like flaked maize
Tits and green finches like peanuts and sunflower seeds (whole peanuts are suitable for
winter feeding only)
Black sunflower seeds are an excellent all-year round food
Fat balls are excellent winter food (remove nylon mesh bag as it can trap and injure birds)
Avoid…..
Seed mixtures that have split peas, beans, dried rice or lentils
Mixtures with pink or green lumps – these are dog biscuits! and can only be eaten when soaked
Provide…
A regular supply of clean water for drinking and bathing particularly in winter when natural supplies may be frozen
Clean…
Your bird bath and feeding table regularly to avoid diseases

Mabel's Marvellous Milk!

Congratulations to Ilmington’s own Mabels Farm Dairy for being included in the Shipston Transition Food and More! Directory.  Only producers of goods produced ethically qualify for entry, and as villagers well know Sid and Audrey Betteridge have been producing milk from their free range cows for 35 years, as well as free range eggs from their much loved hens.
For free delivery of ‘Mabel’s Marvellous Milk’ call 01608 682464 or drop in and purchase from the Back Street Farm.
Food and More! lists a host of merchants and producers from Shipston and a six mile radius, and is a vital resource in the move to buy local food and support our local community.
